Team Assignment 2 (TA2): Business Process Diagram Overview
Dr. Rachel Chung
January 20, 2018

Comprehensive Overview:

The process diagram outlines the business function of inventory flow from a vendor to the web
customer end user. The diagram is organized into five swim lanes titled customer, retail website, vendor, MSC operations, and inventory. Process is initiated by inventory personnel placing an order with a vendor either by telephone or electronically. A vendor sales representative then confirms the order by email and sends a shipping confirmation and invoice to Markl Supply Company’s president who stores the vendor’s information in a data repository system including Excel and a hardcopy recordkeeping file. The vendor ships the products which are received by inventory personnel who assess the products for quality assurance and confirms the quantity of goods received. The packing slip is noted to reflect their findings and products are added to the retail point of sale system. At this point, packing slip information is also recorded in Excel and handwritten to a physical inventory book. Products are uploaded to an online retail website with a sub-process for entering product specifications, images, and pricing. Customer places online order via retail website, enters credit card and shipping information with a sub-process for third party credit authorization. Once authorization is confirmed, the online retail site is updated to reflect the purchase. When payment for products is received, the transaction is finalized by marking products as sold within the retail point of sale system by inventory personnel and products are shipped to the customer. Customer receives an email with confirmation and tracking information. The activity processes end at Markl Supply Company and the web customer receives the ordered products.
